How this unit price calculator works

Unit price is shelf price divided by package quantity. Enter two products to compare their cost for the same amount. The calculator converts weight to grams and liquid volume to milliliters before comparing. It shows weight prices per 100 g, volume prices per liter, and count prices per item. Calculations happen locally in your browser.

For example, a 12 oz package at $3.49 costs about $1.03 per 100 g, while a 20 oz package at $4.99 costs about $0.88 per 100 g. Package B has the lower unit price even though its shelf price is higher. The comparison applies only when both packages use compatible types of measure. It does not include sales tax, coupons, shipping, or product quality.

Use the discount calculator when a sale or coupon changes the actual price you pay. The NIST Unit Pricing Guide recommends expressing comparable products in the same unit of measure.

Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate unit price?

Divide the package price by its net quantity. Convert both products to the same unit before deciding which unit price is lower.

Can I compare ounces with pounds or grams?

Yes. Weight entries are converted to grams, then displayed as dollars per 100 g. Liquid ounces, milliliters, and liters are compared separately as dollars per liter.

Can I compare a weight label with a volume label?

No. Weight and volume need a product-specific density to compare, so the calculator asks for compatible units instead of guessing.
