Common mistakes when estimating trip gas
Even with a fuel cost calculator, estimates go wrong when inputs are fuzzy. Watch for these pitfalls:
1. Mixing kilometers with MPG. MPG expects miles. If your map shows 480 km, convert to miles first (about 298 miles) with the US unit converter, then enter that distance. Mixing units silently inflates or deflates gallons.
2. Using sticker MPG that does not match the trip. City MPG on a highway cruise understates efficiency; highway MPG in dense traffic overstates it. Prefer a recent tank average from your own fill-ups when possible.
